The NBvH was founded after the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in 2001.
Thousands of healthy sheep, goats and cattle were killed preventively. Immediately afterwards followed the bird flu crisis of 2003. And again, healthy animals were preventively killed in 17,000 families.
Fortunately, that is now a thing of the past. What have we achieved together?

* hobby animals are no longer culled preventively

* better allocation of costs for Animal Health Fund, registration, carcass collection

* (partly) alternatives to ear tags, such as gastric bolus

* cooperation between hobby animal organisations
